A few more days and we will be kissing 2015 goodbye.  Why not make it more festive and memorable by spending New Year’s Eve in one of the best travel destinations in the world?

Here are 5 places with the best annual New Year’s Eve celebrations around the globe that you should not miss (in no particular order):

  1. New York

Who would want to miss the famous ball drop when the clock strikes 12?  Every year, an estimated one million people flock the Times Square to celebrate the New Year and experience this free and memorable event.

The New Year’s Eve Ball has been a tradition since 1907 when it made its first ever descent.  The notion of the ball “dropping” signals the passage of time.

NYC is the perfect place to welcome the New Year if you want to celebrate it with star-studded musical performances, colorful pyrotechnic display and of course to be part of this global tradition

  1. Sydney

One of the best fireworks display in the world is in Sydney.  The Sydney Harbour offers different kinds of celebrations that will suit everyone – from party goers to families with kids.  Also, since it is mid-summer in Australia during the New year, the perfect weather makes the whole experience even better.

The celebration kicks off at 6 pm with an aerial show and a water display.  At around 9pm, there will be a Family fireworks display for the kids.  When midnight strikes, a 12 minute fireworks display that features a huge range of pyrotechnic effects from 7 barges in the harbour, 4 sails of the Sydney Opera House, and firing points from across the Sydney Harbour Bridge starts.

  1. Reykjavik

There may be a lot of stunning fireworks display around the world but nothing beats the artwork done by Mother Nature.  During the New Year’s Eve, the Northern Lights become a huge attraction by lighting up the sky with pinks, greens and yellows.

The city is also known for its traditional bonfires where people gather around and burn old things.

Once the clock strikes 12, the impressive fireworks and New Year’s Eve parties start.

  1. Orlando

The city is known for its legendary theme parks such as Walt Disney World, Universal Studios and Sea World.  It is the perfect way to welcome the New Year with the whole family, most especially the kids and the young at heart.

  1. Rio de Janeiro

If you want to welcome the New Year at the beach, then you should check out the Copacabana Beach in Rio which hosts the annual celebration.  With the Carnival-style celebration, fairground attractions, oceanfront performances, a procession of boats and topped off with fireworks over the ocean, I am sure that you will definitely have a very unforgettable New Year’s Eve.
